REPORT ON TRIP TO BASSE / BAKADAJI AND NAFUGAN

Monday 3rd of March to Saturday 8th of March

Purpose of Visit: 

  • Maintenance exercise
  • Monitoring projects being implemented

Maintenance activities:

3-3-2008  
• Verification of maintenance areas
• Recommendations for materials
• Purchasing necessary materials

4-3-2008

• Maintenance on doors, locks and hinges. This included lubricating the good locks, replacing others, planing and replacing all the hinges. It also includes repairing other parts of the doors and frames. In total 5 doors out of 9 doors were completed today.

5-3-2008

• Similar exercises to the previous day and the rest of the doors were completed.
• The carpenter entered the ceiling to find out if the termites have invaded the area but fortunately there were non to be found
• The locally made solution of salt, water and some herbs were sprinkled on the termite affected area’s, only 2 rooms.

 

6-3-2008

• Chipping of cracks in the wall all over the building
• Repairing and plastering broken walls on door frames


7-3-2008
 
• Application of mastic around the door frames and wooden joints

 

Monitoring activities:

3-3-2008
• Observing of the pit latrine and checking the measurements of 3 x 1.5 x 3m. Inspection of the inner wall constructed which divides the hole in three compartments.

4-3-2008
• Preparations were being made for the cover of the pit latrine with concrete
• The necessary materials such as sticks, used corrugates and brc. rods were readily available. Estimates and measurements were corrects.

5-3-2008
• Concrete work for covering the pit was done and completed

6-3-2008
• Construction of the wall to separate the three pit latrines commenced

7-3-2008
• Construction of wall of the latrine continued.
• Visit to the Gambisara Health Centre to observe their waiting shed and drafting of the sketch plan for the waiting shed for the Bakadaji Health Centre.
 
8-3-08
• Demarcation of the site for the waiting shed with some of the community members.

 

Nafugan was also visited on the 5th, 7th and 8th of March 2008. The erected wall was observed and on the 7th of March on my way from Bakadaji I saw members of the community unloading cements bags and taking them into the school store. On the 8th of March, when I went to collect the school map, I found out that there were about 400 newly molded blocks. I measured the different areas of the school and later prepared a sketch plan of the school.
